A Pharmaceutical Technician Role
Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Tech 1 assists licensed pharmacists in the practice of pharmacy. Performing duties such as preparing, filling, and labeling medications for patients in a medical setting.
As patient care assignments dictate, the technician I is responsive to the explicit need of various patient populations.
When relevant, appropriate standards of practice and sensitivity to the psychosocial needs of these patient populations are exercised.Responsibilities:
- Active participation in the Pharmacy Department Technician Career Ladder.
- Recognize and identify various classifications of medications, medication names, dosage forms, and routes of administration.
- Understand the pharmacy workflow for first doses, refills, cart fill and batches.
- Responsible for the accurate interpretation of EPIC pharmacy labels.
- Interpretation and understanding of medical abbreviations.
- Identification and differentiation of different types of medication orders.
Requirements:
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Currently State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician licensure required.
- Listed below is the required training program/hours that need to be completed ACPE/ASHP accredited training.
- 500 hours of on the job training covering items 1-6 of Section 17.1 of the PPA Items 1-6
- Ability to effectively follow directions, analyze problems, and interpret analytical data.
- Strong communication skills with an emphasis on customer service skills.

- 37.5 hours per week required for full-time status.
Work Environment:
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required.
