WBAIS and Israel
Established under the auspices of the American Embassy in 1958, The Walworth Barbour American International School in Israel (WBAIS) is a MSA accredited, fully independent, co-educational Pre-K - 12 international school, which offers a robust program leading to a US high school diploma.
With a present enrollment of approximately 700 students representing over 40 nationalities, WBAIS Israel is a diverse and vibrant community. Approximately 30% of WBAIS students are American, 40% from countries all over the world, and 30% Israeli.
In 2008 WBAIS moved to its current 19-acre campus that opened in 2007 and is located in the town of Even Yehuda, a residential community approximately 20 kilometers north of Tel Aviv. The purpose-built campus includes four separate divisions, a performing arts building with a 400-seat auditorium, full gym, cafeteria, library and media center, athletic fields, tennis and basketball courts, and an olympic-sized pool.
Position Objectives
The Walworth Barbour American International School in Israel seeks an experienced, student-centered, and dynamic Middle School Mathematics teacher. Our school vision - nurturing a diverse learning community of reflective learners who are growing as compassionate and responsible citizens - requires teachers committed to a strong understanding of middle level philosophy. Our teachers deliver high quality instruction that celebrates critical thinking, analysis, and skill development in addition to operational fluency and problem-solving. We are seeking an individual who embraces best pedagogical practices and also actively contributes to the life and culture of the school.
Essential Responsibilities
The Middle School Mathematics Teacher will:
- Develop and teach Middle School Mathematics curriculum
- Mentor students in an Advisory/Homebase
- Lead an Exploratory Course based on student and teacher input
- Collaborate with students, teachers, parents and leadership
- Maintain a successful classroom learning environment
- Plan and supervise extra-curricular activities
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (Masters preferred)
- Current and valid teaching license
- Minimum three years teaching experience in a similar role
Position Expectations
To excel in this position, an individual must successfully perform each essential responsibility, in addition to the following:
- Classroom technology – be familiar with educational technology such as GSuite and online learning management systems.
- Classroom facilitation – effectively orchestrate a class with high learning impact, by incorporating best practices into the classroom.
- Curriculum development – contribute to the development and documenting of curricular documents (unit plans, assessments, standards documentation, etc.).
- Communication skills – proactively communicate to integrate all community stakeholders into the learning process.
Priority will be given to candidates who have experience:
- Implementing the CCSS Standards of Mathematical Practice
- Familiarity with low-floor, high ceiling tasks
- Utilizing Mathematics software such as Desmos
- Serving as an Advisor/pastoral care role
- Utilizing the Responsive Classroom approach
- Working with students with varying levels of English language fluency
- Collaborating in a co-teaching model
- Integrating subjects in a project-based or service learning model
- At least three years teaching in an international school setting
- Understanding of the AMLE Successful Middle School attributes and characteristics
