We are seeking a passionate and experienced AI Engineer to join our founding AI team, reporting directly to the VP of R&D. This is a critical IC role where you will be a key technical contributor responsible for designing, building, and deploying the core AI and backend systems powering Neon Security's platform. As one of the first AI engineers, you'll play a significant part in shaping our AI strategy and execution through your technical expertise.

This role requires excellent problem-solving skills, and a hands-on approach to building scalable, robust, and innovative AI-driven systems in a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities

• Technical Design & Architecture:
  Design and architect scalable, resilient, and maintainable AI systems, backend services (primarily Go and Python), and data pipelines leveraging microservices, gRPC, event-driven architectures, and various database technologies (PostgreSQL, Neo4j, Weaviate).
• Hands-on Development:
  Contribute significantly to the codebase (Go, Python), implementing core features, complex algorithms, AI agent logic using frameworks like LangChain or LlamaIndex, PydenticAI, LangFuse and others, while tackling challenging technical problems.
• Technical Influence:
  Contribute to the team's technical direction through design proposals, code reviews, and architectural discussions. Share knowledge and help establish best practices.
• Cross-functional Collaboration:
  Work closely with Product Management, other engineering team members (including Frontend/TypeScript), and stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions and ensure alignment with company strategy, particularly our focus on Discover, Automate, and Govern capabilities.
• Execution & Delivery:
  Participate actively in the execution and delivery of projects, ensuring high-quality standards through thorough code reviews, championing testing best practices, and contributing to CI/CD processes (GitHub Actions).
• Operational Excellence:
  Contribute to the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance strategies for the team's services in a cloud-native environment (AWS, Kubernetes), ensuring reliability and performance.
• Innovation:
  Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI/ML, backend technologies, and security, identifying and prototyping opportunities to apply them to Neon's platform.

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong backend development experience (4+ years), with significant proficiency in
  Go
  and
  Python
  .
• Solid understanding and practical application of AI/ML concepts, particularly involving LLMs, agentic systems, vector databases, and RAG patterns.
• Proven experience designing and building complex, scalable distributed systems, microservices, and APIs (gRPC, REST).
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and data modeling.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building data-intensive applications, including event-driven architectures or workflow orchestration (Temporal).
• Experience with graph databases (Neo4j) and/or vector databases (Weaviate).
• Hands-on experience with AI agent frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, LangGraph).
• Experience in the cybersecurity, Identity and Access Management (IAM), or Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) domains.
• Familiarity with frontend technologies (TypeScript, ) and API Gateways (NestJS).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD best practices.
• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, AI, or a related field.
