Job Purpose

The Head – Operations is responsible for the seamless execution of port operations across all kinds of vessels and yard operation including cruise. This role ensures operational efficiency, discipline, adherence to safety and compliance standards, and continuous improvement in day-to-day functioning, aligning with the strategic direction set by the site and business leadership.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operational Execution: Lead and manage all port operations, ensuring timely and efficient cargo handling across all business segments.
  • Process Optimization: Implement and refine SOPs to drive operational excellence, reduce turnaround time, and improve service levels.
  • Resource Management: Ensure optimal deployment of manpower, equipment, and infrastructure to meet operational targets.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track key operational KPIs, analyze variances, and initiate corrective actions to meet performance benchmarks.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce high safety standards and ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Technology Enablement: Leverage digital tools and automation to enhance operational visibility and efficiency.
  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of operational managers and supervisors, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., maintenance, planning, commercial) and external partners (e.g., vendors, regulatory bodies) to ensure smooth operations.
  • Crisis Management: Respond swiftly to operational disruptions, ensuring minimal impact on service delivery and safety.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates to the COO on operational performance, challenges, and improvement initiatives.

Key Stakeholders

Internal: COO – Ports, Heads of Maintenance, Planning, Safety, Commercial

External: Vendors, Contractors, Port Users, Regulatory Authorities

Job Qualifications

Education: Engineer (Mechanical/Marine/Industrial preferred) , Logistic degree

Experience: 15+ years of experience in port or logistics operations, with at least 5 years in a senior operational leadership role at a large site with over 300 employees

Skills: Strong leadership, analytical thinking, process orientation, stakeholder management, and familiarity with port automation systems
