About the Job

The ASTERRA R&D department is seeking a highly capable and independent data scientist motivated to tackle hard problems as part of our Data Science team. The selected applicant will have the opportunity to make an impact using ASTERRA's data on the company AI strategy and implementation, and a contribution to global sustainable development goals.

*This is a temporary position starting December 2025 and expected through September 2026-There is a potential extension.

Key Responsibilities

1. Machine Learning Research & Innovation

  • Stay up to date with state-of-the-art Machine Learning and Deep Learning research, especially as applied to SAR and remote sensing imagery.
  • Evaluate, adapt, and implement new research findings into relevant workflows.

2. SAR Imagery Processing & Utilization

  • Contribute to end-to-end SAR data workflows: acquisition, preprocessing, transformation, sensor fusion, classification, segmentation, anomaly detection, and change detection.
  • Develop algorithms tailored to multidimensional Earth Observation data.

3. End-to-End Model Development

  • Take full lifecycle ownership of ML solutions, from experimentation to deployment.
  • Work as part of cross-functional product development squads delivering breakthrough AI features.

4. Knowledge Sharing & Collaboration

  • Strengthen ASTERRA's Machine Learning practice by sharing methodologies, insights, and best practices.
  • Contribute to ASTERRA's scientific impact across industries and collaborative research initiatives.

What you'll need

  • 3+ years of industry experience in
    Deep Learning for Computer Vision applications
    .
  • Strong experience in
    Python
    programming and
    SQL
    scripting.
  • Hands-on experience with developer tools such as
    Git
    and
    Docker
    .
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within technical teams.
